Congratulations to D&S Chief Innovation Officer Jerry Canfield on his recent election to 2nd Vice President of the Academy of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers (AMAE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T).

The AMAE at Missouri S&T was established in 1995 to recognize outstanding alumni for their professional achievement and success, and to create a group that would provide organized assistance to the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.

Jerry was inducted into the Academy in October 2015 and was soon thereafter asked to serve as Chairman for the Senior Design Committee – which he has actively supported since 2014. In this role, Jerry helps prepare the senior mechanical engineering students for entrance into the industry by mentoring them in their problem-solving approach, solution analysis, and presentation skills.

Over this time, D&S has sponsored – and Jerry has led – 4 projects with the Senior Design Team. These projects served as powerful experiences for both D&S as well as the Mechanical Engineering students. D&S benefited from a tremendous amount of talent and creativity, while the students absorbed hands-on experience in designing solutions to real-world problems.

Some of Jerry’s background:

-Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering 1989, University of California – Davis

-Master of Business Administration 1996, University of Nebraska – Lincoln

-Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering 1999, University of Missouri – Rolla

Upon graduating from UC Davis, Jerry was commissioned an officer in the US Navy. He served 8 distinguished years in the submarine force with multiple long-term deployments into the Asian Pacific Theater.

After leaving the Navy, Jerry relocated to the St Louis area and began a 10-year career with MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. During that time Jerry progressed through the technical and operational leadership ranks that brought him to assignments around the world including Italy, Japan, and Malaysia.

Since 2005 Jerry has been the technology leader at D&S Car Wash Equipment Company. During this time, he led his team in the development of several major lines of automatic car wash equipment – the most recent being D&S’ flagship brand and industry revolutionizing IQ Car Wash.

The AMAE also includes D&S CEO Jon Jansky as a member, who complimented Jerry for his accomplishment in saying “this is a well-deserved selection…it’s a good accomplishment and recognition by a solid group of peers.”

Congratulations Jerry, and thank you for everything you do for D&S!  For more of the latest news on the D&S home front, be sure to follow our social media pages.
